What is a press brake?
Press brake is a piece of forming machinery used to bend sheet and plate material according to different process requirements, mainly focusing on bending metal sheets, which follows the cutting process throughout the processing chain.
How about it’s structure? What constitutes a press brake? A table for placing a sheet and an upper knife for pressing can finish the whole action? Of course not! Press brake consists of following main parts, including two C-frames form the sides, a table at the bottom and a movable beam at the top, matching fixtures, electrical system, hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic system, slider and guide mechanism, dies, back gauge, front support, compensation cylinder, etc.
How many types of press brake?
There are several types of brakes as described by the means of applying force: manual, hydraulic, CNC.
First, the manual press brake, which operates in the same way as its name, that is, it requires manually adjustment of bending dimensions and angles. This type of machine contains worktable, supporters, and clamping plate, and is more suitable for light and small metal plates. Meanwhile, it has higher requirement for operator, he needs to have a skilled operation and more practical experience to adjust bending size and different angles, and make a lot of processing operations.
Second, the hydraulic press brake, which can be divided into twisted shaft synchronization, machine-hydraulic synchronization, and electro-hydraulic synchronization according to the synchronous mode. And classification from another perspective, it can be further divided into upward movement and downward movement according to the movement mode as well. It operates using two synchronized hydraulic cylinders on the C-frames moving the upper/bottom beam, a more detailed explanation is that press drives the left and right cylinders to extend and return through the actions of various valves on the servo proportional valve, which drives the machine’s movable beam to rise and fall.
Third, the CNC press brake is to use the equipped die(general or special die) to bend the metal sheet in the cold state into various geometric cross-sections. It is a sheet metal forming machine designed for cold-rolled sheet metal processing, which is widely used in sheet metal bending processing in industries such as automobile, aircraft manufacturing, light industry, shipbuilding, containers, elevators, and railway vehicles.
The coordinate axis of the press brake has been developed from single axis to 12 axis, its CNC system can automatically realize the depth control of slider operation, the adjustment of the left and right tilting blocks, the rear stopper, the left and right sides, the pressure tonnage and the slider approaching the working speed. It can make the bending machine easily realize the slide down, jog, continuous, pressure holding, return and stop in the middle, etc., and complete the multi-bend bending of the same angle or different angles at one time.
The working principle of a press brake may sound complicated, but it is actually similar to the action of human chewing food. How can this be explained? The upper and lower rows of human teeth are similar to the upper and lower dies of a press brake, while the human nervous system is similar to the hydraulic, mechanical or numerical control system of a bending machine. What is a press brake used for?
A press brake is mainly used in the steel processing and construction industries, and its processed products are often used as roof trusses, purlins, trusses, steel frames, wall frames, keels, roof panels, wall panels, floor panels, doors, and windows. In particular, the section steel produced by the press brake has a great advantage over the ordinary hot rolling production just now, which is mainly reflected in the small residual stress of the steel and the dense welds. More importantly, the press brake can produce sections with more complex interface shapes, which are not comparable to many traditional processes.
How to use a press brake?
Foremost are the things for press brake operator, who needs to do the following steps:
Before starting, carefully check whether the motor, switch, wiring and ground are normal and firm, as well as whether the operating parts and buttons of the equipment are in the correct position.
The upper and lower dies should be wiped and cleaned. The gap between the upper and lower dies also need be adjusted uniformly. Check the coincidence and solidity of the upper and lower molds is necessary as well.
Check the oil level in the fuel tank and start the oil pump to check the hydraulic pipes and pumps for abnormalities.
Check if there is any debris on the pallet, stopper and slider, clean it if there is.
Run the upper slide that is not at the origin and each positioning axis back to the origin program.
After the device is started, it needs to run idle for 1-2 minutes, and the upper skateboard moves 2-3 times during the full stroke. If abnormal sounds or faults are found, it should be stopped immediately, and can only be operated again after troubleshooting. In addition, it is necessary to adjust the stroke and ensure that there is a plate thickness gap when the upper die of the bending machine goes down to the bottom, otherwise, the die and the machine will be damaged.
Setting bend parameters, and pay attention to the bending force of the workpiece, which is obtained from the number of bending forces of the sheet or the calculation formula of the bending force, and the bending force must not be greater than 1000KN. The bending sheet should be placed in the middle of the mold rather than loaded on one side, so as not to affect the workpiece and the accuracy of the machine. If some workpieces need to work on one side, the load should not be greater than 250KN, and both sides must be bent at the same time.
If the workpiece or mold is found to be incorrect during machine operation, the machine should be stopped for calibration. It is strictly forbidden to calibrate by hand during operation to prevent injury to the operator.
After finishing processing, exit the control system program first, then cut off the power.
